Esther and I were talking about the fact that most people do not build their PCs but just build one. And we wonder how a company like Aftershock stacks up to just buying parts.
This is one of Aftershockâs machines which is listed on their website.
Aftershock
CPU: Ryzen 5 5500 Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 RAM: 16GB Lexar Ares RGB DDR4 3600Mhz (8GB x 2) Power supply: 800W FSP Hydro Pro 80+ Bronze SSD: 512GB Lexar NM620 Gen3 SSD Casing: Hyte Y40 Black GPU: Zotac GTX 1650 Amp Core 4GB
Price S$1250
Just the parts from multiple sites.
CPU + Motherboard : Ryzen 5 5500 + Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 ($468, Fuwell) RAM: Corsair Veng LPX 3600MHz CL18 (2x8GB) ($79, Fuwell) Power supply: Corsair CV750 750 Watt 80 Plus Bronze ($110, Bizgram) SSD: 500GB Kioxia Exceria M.2 NVMe (Toshiba) ($49, Fuwell) Casing: Hyte Y40 Black ($205, Lazada MakeFine) GPU: ZOTAC GTX 1650 AMP Core 4GB DDRD6 ($264)
Total: S$1175
So it appears that the parts cost is already quite close to their selling price. Of course I could not find the same part for everything but it should be close. So they really are value for money.
The selection of parts to me was kind of odd, I would probably do with a smaller PSU and cheaper casing and put the money towards a better GPU if gaming is the use case. The PSU is really kind of a overkill and while the casing is nice, it does not really add any performance.
